My brother and sister-in-law recently attended a reunion for her family. As you can imagine lots of pictures were taken in a variety of configurations but there was one picture in particular that I felt deserved some extra attention, and just in time for a birthday gift too.


Once I adhered the patterned strips from Rustic Home Fundamentals paper pack, I mixed a touch of yellow with white watercolor paint to create a cream more compatible with the Colonial White cardstock used and then “splattered” to add some additional texture using our medium-flat waterbrush.

After allowing a few minutes for the splatters to dry, I finished embellishing with Thin Cuts and ribbons. Here’s a complete list of materials used:

To turn it into a birthday gift, I placed it in a memory frame purchased at a local craft store and Voilà “Happy Birthday, Sis”.

It’s often hard to find the perfect gift for the special mom(s) in your life but you can’t go wrong showing your love and appreciation with a handcrafted card.  I made this one for my sister-in-law this year.

The inside greeting was cut using Cricut Design Space then assembled and adhered to the inside of the card base.   All materials are Close To My Heart and are, except for the retired Skylark Complement embellishments I used on the card front, currently available.

Clean and simple

We all have different approaches to scrapbooking. Most of the time when I’m working on my scrapbook layouts it takes me longer to conceptualize or design my pages than it does to actually put it together. I lay my photos out, moving them here and there until I like the placement; then I try to picture the overlays, frames or mats that will enhance the pictures.  I have to remind myself that it doesn’t have to be complicated; a clean and simple design, like color-blocking, can work just as well – and it’s a lot quicker too.
